I had to teak a break from blogging because I was hospitalized for about a month. The reason I was hospitalized was because of what the doctors called an ulcer on my leg. Honestly though, it looked like the skin and muscle on my shin was deteriorating rapidly. It came out of nowhere.
At first it started as a little sore on my leg. Within a week it looked like there was half of a black golf ball sticking out of my shin. Within a week after that, the skin was gone, the muscle was showing and it was extremely painful. I couldn't walk or even sit in a chair comfortably. I had to have my leg elevated or the pain was excruciating. When I got to the hospital, they immediately started me on a regimen of Morphine, Vicodin, and super strong antibiotics.
While all that did help, it didn’t start to heal as fast as it should have. They told me it was because of my diabetes.
While I was there in the hospital, I was able to stream a documentary called “The Game Changers” on my tiny little iPhone. Let me tell you, that documentary changed my life.
It was made by a fighter who was looking for the perfect diet. It ended up being a plant based diet. No animal products whatsoever. The film shows a lot of the negative things that happen when a human eats meat. I had no idea!
I immediately changed my diet to all plant based. I took the extra step in eliminating gluten from my diet as well. Thankfully, the hospital was able to accommodate this diet. It honestly was not very hard to do. Don’t get me wrong, I used to LOVE meat. Especially a big greasy cheeseburger but the benefits that I have experienced from this diet heavily outweigh the temporary satisfaction I got from the cheeseburgers.
Surprisingly, I have built up a lot of muscle in my arms by lifting weights twice a day. As of right now, I cannot exercise my legs because of the injury, but in about a month I will be able to.
My diabetes is also in way better control than it was before. I feel great. This diet has helped me so much that I tell everyone about it. A lot of people won’t do it because they like animal product food so much. I understand that. I get it. I know though, that if they had experienced all the benefits from the diet that I have, they would switch over immediately.
