What the Heck am I Doing?

I have been involved with the Clickfunnels 30 day One Funnel Away Challenge for 3 weeks now. They say it’s 30 days but really it’s a warm up week followed by 4 weeks of intense training.

The whole reason I got in to this challenge is because I wanted to sell my music online. I am learning about offer stacking, writing hooks, forming by background story, and all kinds of things. The lesson today showed a sneak peek of a picture of the sales funnel we will be building.

This is a good time to interject that during the whole challenge I have had a hard time deciding whether I want to focus on selling my independent music or if I want to focus on building a business to help others be more successful with their music. I have decided to use this current challenge to focus on selling my own original music online.

One of the first parts of the challenge was teaching us how to build an offer stack. An offer stack is a few products bundled together to create an offer for a potential customer. We have learned that it is very important not to try to sell a product, rather present an offer. I had some difficulty with this in the beginning because I was not sure of what I could bundle with my music CDs. I have decided to try adding a sticker, a poster, and a pin on button to the offer. I think it may work well because CDs are kind of retro and so are pin on buttons so if a person would like to have a CD, they would most likely like to have a pin on buttons as well. I came up with the sticker idea because I remember buying products that came with stickers and I was really happy to get the sticker. I am also considering including a surprise gift to put in the offer stack as well. Maybe some piece of jewelry or a CD case or something.

I have learned a lot about marketing so far. I’ve learned how to get good product images made for a reasonable price, I have learned how to write good sales messages, I have learned how to write good hooks, and I have learned much more.

Right now I am working on crafting my back story of how I came to be a musician, the challenges I faced along the way, how I overcame them, and how I got to the point I am at right now. All of the members of the One Funnel Away Challenge have been supplied with a notebook that asks us certain questions about ourselves that will help us build our back stories.

Soon, I will be typing out my entire back story in a blog. I am hoping that typing it in a blog first will make it easier for me to know what to write in my sales funnel. It will be kind of a practice for me.

Another part of the challenge is to publish something every day for 365 days. We were given the option of blog, podcast, or live video. I chose blog because I thought it would be the one that I enjoy the most. We were all told that we would not be good at publishing content at first, but every day we will get a little better. Right now I am at the very beginning stages, so these are probably the worst blog entries I will ever write, but I will be consistent and know that at some point, I will cross the line and be a great blog writer.

I appreciate everyone who has read any of my blogs so far. Just know that they will get better over time and this is just the beginning!

I am not aware of anyone else in the challenge that is focusing on their original music. It seems that most people in the challenge have some kind of online course that they are selling. I am really optimistic about using these strategies for my music because I do not think a lot of independent musicians are doing this. I know that people think that nobody listens to CDs anymore, but last year CDs did over 200 million in sales and vinyl records did even more than that. In fact, selling CDs can become a niche in itself, along withg my style of music which I call Rocktronica.

I do not think there are a lot of people or musicians in the rocktronica arena so this will help me really carve out a micro-niche for myself. The music I create is a mix of rock, electronic, and metal. It is melodic and edgy. I think there are a lot of people who would like it.

Being extra creative with the marketing for my music will help me in the future if I want to market other things because the first thing I am trying is really making me think outside of the box. I used to sell electronics online and if I had taken this training back then, I would have been super successful with that. At that point I was only using Google to advertise, I had no idea about the power of Facebook advertising.

There are a lot of other ways to advertise and I am looking forward to learning about that as well.

In closing, I have to say that I think this challenge is really setting up to be successful with selling my music. I know that there will be some failures before the great success comes, but I have been told many times that I am persistent with things once I set my mind to it.

That trait may be my saving grace in this game. Persistence and consistency. I am looking forward to trying new things with the presentation of my music like different cover artwork and different offer stacks. It really seems like it will be a lot of fun.

One of the things that the teachers have said over and over again is that we should not spend the profit we make. Instead we should roll it back in to advertisements and creating new products. I think I will be okay with that. I might cheat a little and spend some of it on a cheeseburger and a soda though!

I hope you will stay along with me and watch all the things I will go through to be successful with selling my music online. If anything, it will probably be entertaining for you.

Until next time!
